Superior service of Brussels Airlines shown in new pan-african campaign

With a new African campaign, Brussels Airlines wants to stress its superior service. In a 60” tv-commercial we see a stewardess performing her typical kindness and service in everyday situations on the ground. We see her bring coffee to a guy stuck in straffic or giving a small toy to a child looking bored during a museum visit. Every time the people react pleasantly surprised when seeing the stewardess appearing out of nowhere. The series of scenes is concluded with the line : “The kind of service you only expect in the sky”, followed by the logo of Brussels Airlines. The commercial is currently shown on CNN and TV5 in Africa.

Held at the Hilton London, Tower Bridge, its celebrity hosts were Robbie Gee (Actor – Desmonds, Snatch, Prime Suspect, The firm, Mean Machine) and Eddie Nestor (BBC Radio London presenter/Actor – Casualty, Prime Suspect2, Here & Now, The Bill).  The glittering event also boasted esteemed dignitaries including Simon Hughes MP and His Excellency Dr. Zola Skweyiya, South African High Commissioner, presenting awards on the evening.

Uganda: Diaspora urged to invest in north

UGANDANS in the Diaspora have been encouraged to invest in the north, especially in the agriculture and education sectors.

Dr. Martin Aliker, a senior presidential advisor, observed that there were still large tracts of land in the region that were not developed, adding that the new investments would transform the region and improve people’s lives.

Aliker, who was speaking at the third ‘Home is Best’ Diaspora conference at Hotel Africana last week, however, said the land tenure system in the area was still a challenge.

Uganda: Luzira Prison for sale

The land on which Luzira prisons is built, is up for grabs if any investor shows interest to develop it.

Prisons authorities have already submitted a proposal to Uganda Investment Authority to exchange the land with an investor for a new prison facility outside Kampala, Prisons Chief Dr Johnson Byabashaija reveals.

He explains that the move is aimed at helping Uganda prisons get new and improved structures to cater for the increasing number of inmates.

The China International Fund and China Sonangol are being used to bail out troubled regimes when international pressure on them is at its highest. First, there was the China International Fund’s US$7 billion deal in Guinea on 12 October, just after the 28 September massacre of civilians in Conakry (AAC Vol 2 No 12). This month, Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s government announced an $8 bn. deal with China Sonangol on 18 November, shortly after Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai returned to the power-sharing government and the Southern African Development Community began to increase pressure on the regime.
