10 Most Expensive Celebrity Homes Sold in 2013

By  |

Buying, remodeling, listing, selling home, it’s like child’s play for celebrities. Whenever they feel they need a change in their lives, Hollywood A-listers simply decide to put their mansions on the market and hope a buyer will come soon enough for them to cash in their money and buy another, more sumptuous and more expensive house elsewhere. Many celebrities decided to sell their humble abodes in 2013. No, it’s not some crisis hitting their wallets. Median home prices increased by up to 10% in the United States in 2013. The spectacular recovery in the housing market is one of the reasons many stars decided to list their palatial estates, in the hope of cashing in some dough.

Real estate is a big business, and when celebrities are involved, it gets even more interesting. Celebrity homes swap owners more often than most of us go on holiday. They are simply passed on from one star to the other, flipping these mega mansions like coins. Matt Damon, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Reese Witherspoon, and Carrie Underwood are just a few of the A-listers that put their homes up for sale. However, not all their fancy cribs managed to shake hands with new owners. Instead, older listings finally caught a lucky break. Listed by national real estate brokerage Redfin, the following expensive celebrity homes met their new owner in 2013.

10. Debra Messing’s Bel Air Home: $11.4 Million

The leading lady of Smash and former Will & Grace co-star Debra Messing managed to sell her home on 10475 Bellagio Rd. in Bel Air in less than a month after listing it in mid January 2013, which rarely happens these days. She purchased the mansion from Oscar-winning actress Renee Zellweger back in 2003 for around $7 million. Interesting how stars tend to swap houses. Boasting 6,410 square feet of living space, the house was built in 1937 and was designed by renowned architect Paul R. Williams. It is traditional in style, and yet very luxurious thanks to its amenities, with six bedrooms and eight bathrooms, whose pride and joy is a large master suite with his and her baths and walk-in closets. The house features an additional wing that can be used for guests or offices, and there’s also an outdoor pool with cabana and large lawn.
