Eyewitnesses described how bodies plummeted from 33,000ft when the passenger craft, carrying 298 people, was shot down over rebel-held eastern Ukraine on Thursday. One woman, Irina Tipunova, 65, told how her bedroom roof (centre) was smashed through when a female victim fell from the sky, coming to a rest next to her bed in the village of Raspinoye. Meanwhile criticism of president Vladimir Putin (left) intensified amid accusation that the Russian government armed Ukrainian rebels with the surface-to-air missile which shot down the plane, which was flying over the contested area from Amsterdam in the Netherlands to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The attack left a crash site 10km wide (right), and international efforts to send in investigators and discover what happened have reportedly been hampered by rebel soldiers (right) who control the site.

Further images and accounts from the ground are emerging as Ukrainian authorities today accused Russia and the rebels of ‘trying to destroy evidence’ at the crash site by removing 38 of the bodies, despite international calls to leave the area untouched.
