Bottle Poppin’! Jay-Z Buys Armand De Brignac Champagne Brand
Rapper splashes out an undisclosed amount to acquire luxury alcoholic beverage for himself
Jay-Z has splashed out to buy himself his very own brand of champagne. The rapper paid an undisclosed amount for the acquisition of one of his favourite beverages Armand de Brignac or “Ace of Spades” as it is also known.
The fancy tipple – which is made in the French town of Chigny-les-Roses by just eight people – was sold to Jay by New York based wine and spirits company Sovereign Brands. The drink comes in a gold bottle and costs from around $300/£188 a go, with one 30 litre offering available for in excess of $200,000.
He featured the bottles in his 2006 music video Show Me What You Got. Talking about the deal Sovereign said: “We are proud to announce that Sovereign Brands, a New York-based wine and spirits company owned by the Berish family, has sold its interest in the Armand de Brignac (‘Ace of Spades’) Champagne brand to a new company led by the globally renowned Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter.”
Sovereign’s global director of brand communications added in an e-mail statement: “We have had a wonderful relationship with Jay Z throughout the years since he first discovered Armand de Brignac. He became interested in owning the brand and made us an offer we simply couldn’t refuse.”
Jay’s love of the champagne – produced at a winemaking house which was founded in 1763 – is already well known. He once had over 350 bottles at a fundraiser he and wife Beyonce Knowles threw for US President Barack Obama at a New York night club in 2012.
Owner’s of Vault suites at the Barclays Center arena in Brooklyn, home of the Brooklyn Nets who Jay-Z, 44, used to be part-owner of also have access to a Champagne bar serving Armand de Brignac.
The company name used to purchase the brand has not been released by Jay who already runs several businesses as a sideline to his music career including his record label Roc Nation, a clothing line and restaurants. And with Forbes estimating his net worth at $520million, he is considered to be the third richest hip-hop artist in the world.
