Brief encounter with Ngohide Ruby Ann Gyanggyang

By  |

Ruby always knew she was going to sing. At a very early age, her father introduced her to soul music. The music of Aretha Franklin, Miriam Makeba, OnyekaOwenu, Marvin Gaye, Whitney Houston, Yolanda Adams and more recently, Jill Scott,  Alicia Keys and John Legend has influenced and shaped hers.

While in Jos, she met M.I and Jesse Jagz, who were then both starting out in music. Before long, Loopy Music began, a group of young people interested in making good, sincere music. Together, they began recording and organizing the hugely popular jam sessions in Jos and Abuja.

Ruby’s music tells stories of life- of pain, passion, longing and love- about the all the mystery and wonder life is. Her songs reflect the same depth and beauty as those she grew up listening to.

In her free time, she engages in women empowerment, focusing on providing a platform through which female artistes can express themselves (such as her Diva’s Unplugged) and highlighting issues which affect women all over.

Ruby is from Benue State, Tiv by tribe. She studied Economics at University of Jos.
