DP president Mao survives car accident
Democratic Party President Norbert Mao this Sunday morning survived a car accident in Ntungamo district while on his way to a fundraising function at Kinanira Catholic Parish, Kisoro district. Mr Mao and the people he was travelling with escaped unhurt.
Mr Mao told Daily Monitor that his vehicle, a Land Cruiser VX, hit the rear of trailer at Rwentobo, Kayonza Sub-county at about 6:30am.
“The road is rough and the trailer we were following had no rear lights or reflectors. There was a lot of mist and nothing could be easily seen in front. We hit it in the rear and it speed off,” Mr Mao said from Ntungamo police station where he had gone to record a statement.
The vehicle was being driven by Mr Moses Bigirwa, the DP national Youth deputy coordinator. Mr Herbert Rutagwera, the DP western regional representative, was also in the vehicle.
Ntungamo district police Commander Mr Francis Kabera said the trailer, which was carrying cement to Rwanda, had been located in Kabale and impounded.
Mr Mao’s vehicle was still at Ntungamo police by press time, although this reporter was stopped by officers at the station from taking it’s pictures.
