Gisela Wanjiru Greiner – Beautiful, talented and making headway in the fashion industry
Interview by Maureen Amooti
Gisela Wanjiru is a UK based actress, designer and fast rising super model. Born in Frankfurt, Germany to a Kenyan mother and German father. Standing at over 6 feet. The first impression I got upon meeting Gisela was of her bubbly personality and friendly demeanor
How would you describe yourself?
- My friends call me a socialite.
- I guess I am a free spirit, don’t try to put me in a cage because I will break it (laughs)
- I listen to my heart and I give everybody the benefit of the doubt.
- I am an artist I love to create new things.
How would you describe your style?
I’d describe it as feminine yet playful.
Just as my personality my look can be different every day. One day high fashion and on the next day I’d be wearing sweat pants and a t-shirt, but always stylish (laughs).
Which colours and shapes suit you?
I love all colours and I really hope they all suit me as well. But Gold is my most favourite of all because it is warm and it is sunlight which means life to me.
A handful of people know me as golden girl (smiles).
Are you a dedicated follower of fashion or do you wear what suits you?
I only wear what suits me and I have my own style. Usually I am fashion forward or backward (laughs).
Who is your style icon?
My Icon as a designer is the original Christian Dior who made the most gorgeous dresses, he worked with the best materials and the tailoring was impeccable.
I don’t really have a style icon; I like different, if that makes sense.
What is your biggest fashion no-no?
Definitely sandals with socks, skinny jeans with boots on short legs and horizontal stripes. I could go on. (laughing) In my opinion people should wear what suits them and not what the trend tells them to.
How much do you spend on clothes each month?
I only buy clothes when I am travelling or when I need something in particular. I make most of my clothes myself so I do spend quite a lot of money on materials oh, and shoes of course (blushing).
What is your best beauty secret?
I just use water and plain soap on my face. That is the only thing that works for me. I don’t even use make-up unless I go out. The real secret is being simply being happy.
What is the most expensive item in your wardrobe?
Uh I guess a £2000 dress and a £2000 piece of jewellery. They both where gifts. I wouldn’t pay so much money for clothes. I’d rather make my own and get a ticket around the world with the rest of the money.
Primark or Prada?
I’d definitely choose Prada. I can’t stand Primark (sorry no offense). I go for quality and not for brand and Prada wins this one by miles.
What is the best piece of fashion advice you have ever had?
When you are in a rush just put on a pair of earrings and it looks as if you actually put some effort into your styling.
How did you get into the fashion industry?
One day I grew very tall. Unfortunately, they don’t make trousers for 1.24m legs so I had no choice but to make my own. When I was 2 I crawled up on to a theatre stage where my mom was acting and she just tied me onto her back and kept playing. At the age of 6 I started acting while I only did one modelling job at the age of five and got back into it when I was 19.
