Ground-breaking Afrobeats musical depicting African life in London comes to the stage
Directed By Yinka Ayinde
Written By Nana Duncan
Choreographed By Ezinne Asinugo (CEO Dancers)
Inspired by ‘Oliver Twist’ the 2011 hit song by D’banj
Following a sold-out debut show in the West End last year, the world’s first Afrobeats musical Oliva Tweest is back for a hugely anticipated and exclusive run at London’s legendary Hackney Empire on the 6th and 7th of September 2014.
Oliva Tweest is an original script, which consists of clever renditions of popular Afrobeats songs by artists such as Fuse ODG, Wizkid, DaVido and many more.
Oliva Tweest follows the endeavours of Tobi, a cocky and promiscuous young man from London who wants and gets every girl he likes the look of. He tries everything he can, to get the attention of a young female singer he met at his favourite bar and in his attempts he discovers her world of lies, ambitions and parental pressure. The show boasts dynamic vocal arrangements, exciting choreography, hilarious ‘African family’ scenes and great music performed by a live band.
Oliva Tweest is written by young Hackney resident Nana Duncan, created and produced by Yinka Ayinde, who is currently working with Nabil Elouahabi (Top Boy, 24) and BAFTA Award nominated director Nicolas Kent on The Nightmares of Carlos Fuentes.
Audiences can expect a cast full of fresh talents and celebrity cameos. Last year’s cast members included; award-winning comedian A Dot Comedian, Polydor signed Afrobeats star Mista Silva and burgeoning actress Dorcas Fapson who has gone on to star in MTV’s Shuga.
