Kenya: Muslim Leaders Demand Stop to Clerics’ Killings
By Ramadhan Rajab
Muslim leaders have called on the government to explain the continued mysterious killings of clerics.
This comes two days after the burial of Sheikh Mohammed Kheir, alias Dawara, whose body was found dumped at a pond in Embu five days ago.
Kheir, a Garissa-based cleric, was arrested by individuals purporting to be security officers.
He is the fifth Muslim cleric to be killed this year.
Other unexplained deaths have occurred in Mombasa.
Ibrahim Lethome, a Muslim scholar and member of Jamia Mosque Committee, yesterday said the killings are worrying.
“Generally, in a country where we respect the rule of law and uphold constitutionalism, any killings in unclear circumstance should be promptly investigated and those responsible brought to book,” Lethome told the Star on the phone.
