London Fashion Week solo debut of North London-based designer José Hendo shines spotlight on ethical fashion
José Hendo’s first solo showcase at London Fashion Week put ethical fashion in the spotlight. It took place on September 13th 2014 from 7pm-8pm at The Grand Connaught Rooms, 61-65 Great Queen Street, WC2B 5DA.
Sponsored by Univeral (albums by artist)/ Onita Boone, Salabed, Hendo International, TianDe, vegan shoe company Bourgeois Boheme and M-Press Printers the panel brought together sustainable companies and influencers that the label has collaborated and worked within the sustainable context José Hendo operates the culminating in the catwalk.
Tamsin Lejeune CEO of the Ethical Fashion Forum, Sandy Lunn business manager of the Sue Ryder charity, journalist and activist Winnie Sseruma who founded the BAGCI charity, author Jacqueline Shaw founder of Africa Fashion Guide, Edyta Wojcik, at health and wellness company Tiande and ethical designer José Hendo.
Stressing the power each agent from manufacturers, producers, supply chain to end-consumer in aspects of ethical and sustainable approaches it was as Theo Ombala TV fashion expert (UK STYLE /UK GMTV/Lorraine Kelly Morning breakfast TV Show) said a taster to a much needed deeper discussion to be continued. José Hendo’s much anticipated “Spontaneous S/S R3” collection encompasses mens- and womenswear and is created from fabrics such as silks, silk chiffon, linen and bark-cloth.
The designer is known as an expert on bark-cloth and has began her R3 campaign in February, a movement aimed at businesses across all industries but focusing on the end consumers.
Guest commented: “It was a joy to see garments with such an excellent finish. It was also nice to see something for women of every age.”
Amongst the guest were celebrity America singer Onita Boone who provided her latest album as audio treat for the guests and wore one of José Hendo’s new collection pieces on the night, princess trust celebrity ambassador and stylist Lewis Duncan Weedon, singer presenter Eve-Yasmin.
