Men’s Perfect Wedding Dress

By  |

We always talk about what you want for your big day, but have you ever stopped to consider what your man wants your wedding dress to be like? We did, so we found out… and the results may surprise you.

Over 2,000 votes were cast, with men choosing their favourite neckline, dress length, shape, fabric and embellishment to create their vision of their ideal wedding dress. We then asked award-winning bridal designer Ian Stuart to bring it to life and will be giving Brides The Show-goers the opportunity win it.

Brides magazine Editor, Jade Beer comments: “With Brides readers having voted for the Nation’s Favourite Wedding Dress last year, we felt it was only right to ask for a man’s view this time.  As the results came in, we were all predicting a body skimming fishtail silhouette that would show off curves like nothing else. How wrong we were! The shape he actually favoured over any other was a full length, off the shoulder princess gown in satin and heavily embellished with crystals. There is no doubt that men have good taste and have created a truly beautiful wedding dress.”

Almost half of men said they preferred off-the-shoulder necklines, floor-length gowns. Satin and diamantes were their favourite fabric and embellishment of choice, too.

If you were thinking of a floaty or column gown, you might want to think again; 43 per cent of men said the princess dress shape was their favourite silhouette.

Ian Stuart said: “The ingredients of the dress are text book fairytale, classic and beautiful. The men have come up with a timeless design that is the epitome of bridal fashion. The cleverness of this dress is that it will suit all sizes and heights, which is not an easy thing to achieve in one design. It’s a clear sign that the grooms imagine their brides to wear a ‘wedding dress’, as opposed to the lingerie, vintage look that we have been seeing for quite some time.”
