Summer 2012 Must Haves: Waterproof Makeup

By  |

With the return of summer comes the much-anticipated summer makeup haul. There are certain makeup trends that aren’t always feasible on hot summer days, so one must head over in excitement to the makeup counter and invest in some lightweight and budge proof beauty essentials.

First on the summer makeup list is a tinted moisturiser. If we have our way, this summer shall be a scorcher, which in other words means that foundation is far too heavy to wear during the day. There are several tinted moisturisers on the market at the moment; a common favourite is Garnier’s Miracle Skin Perfector Daily All-in-one BB cream. The miracle skin perfector boasts the ability to give an instant appearance of enhanced, beautiful skin, with an SPF 15 to ensure that our delicate areas are protected at all times. The cream is a great alternative to heavy foundation, and moisturises and nourishes skin quite unlike any foundation could.

One of the most important summer beauty products is the waterproof mascara. No one wants to climb out of the pool and realise that they’re sporting the much dreaded panda eye – that look didn’t even catch on at the zoo! But fear no more, Chanel’s Inimitable Waterproof Mascara has that issue covered. The mascara not only promises smudge proof lashes, it also enhances volume and length whist creating a killer curl. Priced at £23 and available in four shades, this Chanel masterpiece will become your summer hero product.

The key thing to remember with summer makeup is the fact that less really is more. So when on the hunt for new makeup staples opt for a cream based product, particularly when it comes to your blusher, as it will give the illusion of a natural, pretty flush of colour. Jemma Kid has a fab Contour Flush Crème Blush Duo compact, £18, which can be applied with your fingers – perfect for on the go touch ups. The choice shades compliment most skin colours as you can blend and layer accordingly. For maximum contouring, apply the bronze shade first and highlight with the pink blush.

Maybelline have just released a gorgeous new cream based eye shadow collection that has genuine long lasting staying power. The Colour Tattoo 24-hour collection, at £4.99 a shade, is one of the best on the market. Available in most boots and superdrug stores, these handy cream gel eye shadows leave lids crease free for at least 12 hours. Perfect for those hot summer nights, this budge proof collection is sure to leave you smouldering. To compliment this look, opt for Rimmel’s new waterproof gel pot liner that promises to stay put throughout the night. The precision brush ensures striking lines, and the smudge proof qualities make this liner a makeup bag essential. Who said summer makeup had to be boring? Bring out the sexy you with long lasting smudge proof makeup.
For daytime cool however, a tinted lip balm is the perfect accessory. Keep those lips looking luscious and moisturised all day long, and make them pop with a fun and fruity colour. Laura Mercier has a stunning collection of day-to-night lip stains, from vibrant reds to subtle pinks. At £16.50 each, this lip tint can be used to add colour and shine to cheeks and eyelids. Maximise you’re makeup collection for all occasions and layer this stain to bring it into evening glamour.

The most important tool amongst you’re summer beauty haul however, will be Clarin’s Fix Makeup Refreshing Mist. The handbag essential, retailing at only £21, is a miracle buy that gives you’re makeup a longer lease of life! Freshen up throughout the day by giving your makeup a quick spritz with this mist, and re-blend any areas of your makeup that may be running astray.  Even on those days when you’re poolside barefaced, this spray will work a treat to replenish and refresh dehydrated skin.

Have fun shopping ladies, and remember multi-purpose, cream based products will enhance those gorgeous summer glows.
