The Uganda Cranes faced off with Senegal’s Teranga Lions in a high-tempo Group J World Cup 2014 qualifier game that ended 1-1 at Namboole Stadium.

Goals from Pappis Cisse and Godffrey Walusimbi on either half of the game kept the game leveled till the end.

Senegal’s opener came ten minutes before half time. Ndoye Dane wove his way past three Cranes defenders on the left hand side and squared the ball back for Papiss Demba Cisse  who slid it into an empty net to give Senegal the lead.

The game went into a pause with Senegal ahead. But the Cranes side, donning the traditional yellow tops and black shorts swung back into the second half more determined.

Despite the evident increased pressure on the Senegalese side by their Ugandan opponents, it had to take half-an-hour after the break for Uganda to respond.

Papa Sane bundled Geoffrey Massa in the penalty area and the referee pointed to the spot. Walusimbi, the man chosen to lift the Cranes side, sent Sane the other way and hit the ball into the net.

But quick counter-attackers from the Teranga Lions were extinguished even towards the dying moments of the game. It ended 1-1, another such draw for the Uganda Cranes after the Angola game last week in Luanda.
